Things to consider when working in security during summer

Always taken for granted but not always taken seriously

Stay hydrated:

Although we can’t all drink 3.5 litres per day drink a minimum of 2 litres per day when possible 

Sunscreen:

Most of us only use Sunscreen when going to beach or on walks Its important to apply and re apply regularly during the day none of us want skin cancer 

PPE

• Wear sun hat or baseball cap

• Loose fitting long sleeve shirt

• Sun Glasses 

• Water bottle 

• Sunscreen

Security personnel considerations

• Plan your teams breaks 

• Rotate positions within the team so all members get some time away from heat and inside if available

• Ensure cool water is available at all times 

• Ensure team members stay in touch via radios with regular checks on those members working outside

• Ensure all team members know and are familiar with the symptoms of heat stress and how to treat for both fellow team members and of course patrons. 

• Try to position staff in shade areas if not possible portable shade tents are always great
